What is it?
While our skin serves as a robust barrier against external threats, it’s susceptible to infections caused by diverse microorganisms like bacteria, yeast, fungi, viruses and parasites. These infections can extend to hair and nails. Bacterial infestations, such as those caused by Staphylococcus aureus, may present as small red bumps or larger, tender nodules on the skin surface. Yeast infections often lead to inflammation in skin folds or beneath nails. Fungal infections, such as athlete's foot or jock itch, can result in thickened and distorted nails.
