What is it?

Spider veins, often forming clusters resembling webs or branches, can appear anywhere, though they are commonly found on the legs, feet, or face. While these veins are harmless, they could result in swelling and a sensation of heaviness in the affected areas. Spider veins are more prevalent in women than in men and are often inherited. They are also frequently seen in individuals who are stationary for extended periods, those who are pregnant, and individuals who are overweight due to poor circulation.

Spider veins occur when the valves within your veins become weak. Various factors can contribute to their development, such as sunlight, hormonal fluctuations, past vein surgery, excessive exposure to UV rays, or injuries.

Occasionally, the presence of spider veins could hint at a more severe condition known as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Our board-certified dermatologists at our dermatology clinic can help determine if you are at risk of developing CVI. Schedule a consultation today in one our convenient locations in Lake Forest, Glenview, and Chicago, Illinois.

How is it treated?

Although spider veins are generally benign, you may not like the way they look. The Skin Care Center offers solutions to enhance the look of spider veins through laser treatments, injectable therapies, along with other therapies, all of which are minimally invasive procedures.

If your spider veins indicate a more serious underlying issue, our medical practitioners will prioritize addressing this condition, and subsequently aid you in achieving your cosmetic objectives. Book an appointment with us at our locations in Lake Forest, Glenview, or Chicago, Illinois.
